From Galveston, TX

This was a nice change from the deep south. Galveston is an island off the coast of the gulf of Mexico. I was there during the off season but I am glad. It was hot and I’m sure its brutally hot in the summer.

I spent the majority of the evening at a bar right off the beach called Captain Jacks. The bar maid and a Houston cop I was talking to said that about a hundred years ago a hurricane hit and devastated the island. They enacted martial law and forced the survivors to pile up the bodies as they washed ashore and burn them. pretty brutal but interesting.

The Army corp of engineers then came in and built up the island and created a storm wall… which is why there isn’t much of a beach.
