Meteor Crater, AZ

October 23, 2007

From Meteor Crator

Definitely worth seeing. Paying $15 dollars to see a f**king hole in the earth? not so much. I regret not parking and simply walking a couple hundred yards away from the “site” to see the crater. The people running that place should seriously consider suicide.

Nice place to see though.

Slide Rock

October 23, 2007

From Slide Rock

I camped outside of Sedona, AZ (big mistake … very cold) and found that I was only a couple miles from Slide Rock State Park.

I stopped by the park at around 7:45 in the morning (another mistake … very cold) and wondered around the park.

It’s a really cool sight to see but I really wished I would have been there during the summer months. They actually allow people to swim and slide down the rock. Considering the temperature, doing this would have killed me.

Red Rock State Park

October 23, 2007

From Red Rock Stat…

So far the best place I’ve see during this trip. I hiked through desert, was afraid of coming across a rattle snack or black widow, then dropped a couple hundred feet and continued hiking through grass land, then dropped another couple hundred feet and hiked through forest. I couldn’t have imagined a place that would have all this variation in a single park.

Although the picture at the head of this post lists all kinds of dangerous creatures, all I actually saw was a lizard and a hummingbird. sorry :)

Tuzigoot

From Tuzigoot Nati…

Montezuma’s Castle and Well naturally led me to these pueblo ruins. These ruins where from the same people as the castle and well. It was pretty cool to see these ruins, but not much to say really. They were ruins. The pictures of them say more than I can.

Montezuma’s Well

October 23, 2007

From Montezuma’s Well

The pueblos where of course quite similar the the pueblos found at Montezuma’s Castle. The well itself was rather plain at first sight but was really was quite amazing. The water in the well comes from natural springs and is at a constant 74 degrees. The water from the well goes underground and after a couple meters resurfaces into an irrigation canal that was dug long ago.

Montezuma’s Castle

October 23, 2007

From Montezuma’s C…

Theis place were really cool to see. The “castle” was initially thought to belong to Montezuma, which in incorrect, but the name still stuck. Nobody really knows why these people decided to build a pueblo fort into the rock. One theory (that I subscribe to) is that it was for protection.

Sonoran Desert Museum

October 23, 2007

From Sonoran Deser…

The sonoran desert museum was pretty cool. It gave me a chance to see some creatures that I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to see.

It isn’t really a museum. It’s more of an outdoor zoo with netting acting as cage walls. Somehow I thought this would would not bother me but it still did. I don’t like seeing wild animals trapped for the enjoyment of humans.

But, since it’s there, why not take a peak? :)

Arizona

October 23, 2007

From Arizona

Drove into Tombstone from Silver City and was not impressed. I probably should have known that it would be a bastardized, comercial version of what was … not a preserved monument.

After Tombstone I traveled to Tuscan for the night.
